French Lavender 'Anouk' (Lavandula Stocheas)
French Lavender is distinguished by its aromatic, silvery-green foliage and unique flower heads, which are topped with prominent, petal-like bracts often compared to butterfly wings. Native to the Mediterranean, it thrives in dry, sunny conditions and brings both structural interest and an intense, classic fragrance to gravel gardens, sunny borders, and patio displays.
Care Guide Table:
| Perfect for | Gravel gardens, sunny borders, and terracotta patio pots |
| Light required | Requires full sun to thrive, maintain a compact shape, and produce its signature fragrance. |
| Water | Highly drought-tolerant once established. Ensure excellent drainage and water sparingly, as it will quickly decline in heavy, waterlogged soil. |
| Hardiness | Moderately hardy (H4). It will survive mild UK winters but requires sharp drainage to prevent the roots from rotting in cold, wet weather. |
| Pollinators | A highly effective pollinator magnet, exceptionally attractive to bees and butterflies. |
| Toxicity | Non toxic to humans. The concentrated essential oils can be mildly toxic to dogs and cats if consumed in large quantities. |
| Flowering period | Blooms from late spring through to late summer, typically earlier than English lavender varieties. Regular deadheading extends the floral display. |
| Growth rate | Moderate grower, generally reaching around 60cm in height and spread. Requires a light annual trim just after flowering to maintain a dense shape and prevent woody, bare stems. |
| Pot size tip | currently in a 11cm nursery pot |
