The Begonia maculata, or Polka Dot Begonia, is one of the most striking and recognisable houseplants you can find. Its long, angel-wing-shaped leaves are a deep olive green, covered in dramatic silver-white spots that look almost painted on. For an extra flash of colour, the undersides of the leaves are a deep, contrasting red. It's an eye-catching plant that grows vigorously, adding a lot of personality and pattern to a collection.

Water required When the top inch of soil is dry. They prefer consistent moisture.
Light required Bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sun, which can scorch the leaves.
Humidity Thrives in higher humidity levels.
Toxicity Toxic to children and pets if ingested.
Origin Brazil.
Grows to Can grow 2-3 feet tall; can be pruned to stay bushy.
