The Philodendron 'Imperial Red' is a striking, self heading aroid prized for its large, leathery, and deeply coloured foliage. Unlike vining philodendrons, it maintains a dense, structural upright habit, though mature plants may eventually benefit from a sturdy stake or moss pole for support as their trunks thicken. The glossy leaves emerge a vibrant, dark burgundy-red and slowly mature to a deep, dark green, creating a continuous, multi-toned display that provides an excellent structural focal point for indoor spaces.

Care Guide:

Perfect for Floor standing displays, bright corners, and spacious offices
Light required Requires bright, indirect light to maintain its vibrant reddish-purple hues. In lower light conditions, the foliage will largely revert to standard green.
Water Allow the top half of the potting mix to dry out completely before watering thoroughly. It is highly susceptible to root rot in poorly draining, waterlogged soil.
Humidity Thrives in elevated humidity but is highly adaptable to average household conditions. Keep away from direct heat sources.
Toxicity Toxic to humans and pets if ingested.
Origin Cultivated variety (derived from South American species)
Growth rate Moderate grower. As a self-heading variety, it spreads outwards and upwards from a central trunk, eventually reaching roughly 1 metre in height and spread indoors.
Pot size tip Choose a pot cover with a 19cm opening
